What exactly is fear? It's the feeling or condition of being afraid. Some of us believe that the ideal acronym for FEAR is Forget Everything And Run while others think of it in a positive light, Face Everything And Rise.
I have experienced FEAR in my personal life so many times that most times it has gotten the best of me. At the very moment when I was doing this presentation I felt nervous and thoughts of me saying the wrong things or not pronouncing my words properly and little things like that crowded my mind. Being a part of 'Talk Up Yout' which develops, supports and highlights programmes that encourage adolescent development and participation in Jamaica) and being on the television for the first time made me nervous and a sense of FEAR crept over me.
I was chosen to be one of the students from my school- Excelsior High to be a representative in a Poetry Competition on a National level and because of the thought of losing to persons from other schools and in front of a large crowd I declined the offer. Being on air at RJR radio station for Palav with Uncle Jerry and some of the other hubbers was also one of the times I can recall being fearful of messing up on air and it was so evident in my voice. With all the three experiences that I just shared, there is one thing that came out in all three- I was only afraid of saying the wrong thing.
KiDz HuB teaches youth that they are not too small to make a big impact in their community or the society on a whole. Coverage and spotlight focus on youth that is making a difference in the community and is the key to getting Hubbers to 'switch on' to the world around them. KiDZ HuB for me and it should be for others is a platform where yes you can use it to let your voice be heard globally but it is also one which helps you to get rid of any type of fear you may have whether it be being too afraid to speak in front of a camera/crowd or even going on air at the radio station.
Ever since I was 9 years of age I haven't been able to see out of my left eye because I got hit in it. However being able to only see out of one eye doesn't stop me from being great or achieving great things. It is a stepping stone for me and a good motivation for me.
There are three things individuals can do to overcome fear and the most important one is to pray (this is for persons who are spiritual). Force yourself to practice and last but certainly not least, be CONFIDENT in yourself.
It’s really just better to Face Everything and Rise rather than Forgetting everything and Run.
